SPACE, STYLE, AND RAW FINISH: INDUSTRIAL FURNITURE

The industrial style already took the interior design market by storm a few seasons ago, and it is not likely that it will lose popularity soon. Spaces designed in an industrial style have a timeless appeal because of their eclectic, simple patterns, raw finishes, large spaces, and limited color palette. The addition of plants, large windows, and functional metal furniture can make these spaces even more delightful. The industrial style was once only used out of necessity during tough economic times, but it has now become a stylish trend in interior design. How did it all start?

A few words about the history of the industrial style

The beginnings of the history of the industrial style date back to the period of the great recession that took place in the 1950s, which mainly covered the territory of the United States. Due to the bankruptcy of many companies and enterprises in those days, American city centers were dotted with a huge amount of abandoned factories, warehouses, and production halls, which created the basis and inspiration for the phenomenon of what is now called the industrial style. Initially, the vacant buildings became popular places among the bohemians of that time, and artists and young people of various kinds settled in them semi-legally. Neighborhoods such as Soho, Chelsea, and Brooklyn have become the footholds of artistic circles, and the creative people settling in them transformed the spaces that were not in use into apartments that were also art studios. One of the aforementioned was, for example, Andy Warhol, who created his illustrious New York studio in the Silver Factory by adopting a former hat factory. In Poland, the fashion for loft-style interiors began in the 1990s, when economic changes meant that factories were closed periodically and the remaining spaces were turned into living spaces.

What is industrial furniture characterized by?

Although loft furniture is often associated with use in utility spaces, it has now departed a bit from its beginnings and is widely used in apartments, studios, or houses. Industrial furniture works great in minimalist interiors as the central elements of the arrangement, as well as when the entire space is made in a given style. What are the main features of loft-style furniture?

Industrial Furniture: simplicity and functionality

Industrial furniture is popular because of its simple design, maximum functionality, and ergonomics. Industrial furniture is simple in design and prioritizes utility over unnecessary decorations and accessories. Loft furniture is perfect for those who appreciate both optimal design and comfort.

Industrial Furniture: straight lines and solid workmanship

Industrial furniture is usually simple in design, without unnecessary details or flashy colors. Its aesthetic value comes from interesting materials and innovative solutions that serve its utilitarian purpose. Loft furniture, thanks to the use of materials such as metal or wood, is not only beautiful but also long-lasting.

Industrial furniture: the use of steel, wood, and other metals

Using materials like steel, wood, and other types of metal ensures that furniture lasts a long time and creates a timeless look for the entire setup. A table made of solid oak or ash finished with metal inserts will not only serve for years, but most of all, it is unlikely to go out of fashion.

Industrial Furniture: Material Reuse

Using industrial furniture is environmentally friendly because it allows for the reuse of materials, which is an important part of recycling.
